Zum Album

English Settlement ist das fünfte Album der britischen Band XTC. Als Arbeitstitel für das Album waren folgende Namen vorgeschlagen: Explosion of Flowers, Knights on Fire, Motorcycle Landscape, Rogue Soup und World Colour Banner. Es wurde im Studio The Manor in Oxfordshire im Oktober und November 1981 aufgenommen. Andy Partridge hatte auch hier wieder den größeren Anteil am Songwriting und auch hier gehen die Songs ineinander über.

Das Album war das erfolgreichste in der Geschichte der Band und schaffte es in die UK-Top 10, ebenso wie die Single Senses Working Overtime. Außerdem gewann das Album den holländischen Edison Award und den italienischen Premio XX Award für das beste Album des Jahres.
