US-Serie, die zwar eigentlich von einer Mutter-Tochter-Beziehung handelt, in der aber ständig die Namen von Indie-Bands fallen, die vor allem durch den Charakter der Musikfanatikerin Lane Erwähnung finden. Für jeden Indiefan ist dies ein Vergnügen, weil es kaum eine vergleichbare Fernsehshow gibt, die so mit Indie-Referenzen um sich wirft. Gleichzeitig werden in fast jeder Folge Lieder solcher Bands gespielt.
Bisher erschien ein Soundtrack zur Serie, der jedoch nur eine Auswahl von Songs der ersten beiden Staffeln umfasst: Music From Gilmore Girls.
