The Rough Trade Shops Top 100 Albums for 2005 – Based on shop sales and staff votes.

Alben
  1. Brakes – Give Blood
(A truly great album and one that got more number 1 staff votes than any other in recent years – 28 minutes of sheer country / punk delight!)
  2. Black Mountain – Black Mountain
(This also picked up a huge amount of staff votes and is probably the big surprise in the top ten – an album of remarkable variation.)
  3. Sufjan Stevens- Íllinoise
(3 consecutive albums in our annual top 20 and amazingly still not a number one (Michigan was number 3 in 2004 and Seven Swans number 17 last year)...)
  4. M.I.A. – Arular
(There's so much going on here (ragga, hip-hop, bhangra, reggae, '80s electro, and even punk rock) that it ought not to work, but it does!)
  5. LCD Soundsystem – LCD Soundsystem
(James Murphy's (one half of dfa) debut album is everything it promised to be...)
  6. Antony and the Johnsons – I Am A Bird Now
(Little needs to be said about the enigmatic mercury prize winner, except that we told you first!)
  7. King Creosote – KC Rules OK
(He certainly does...Two albums in the top 50!)
  8. The Boy Least Likely To – The Best Party Ever
(We first recommended this brillant indie pop album in January...If they are not globally huge by the end of 2006 there is no justice!)
  9. Richard Swift – The Novelist / Walking Without Effort
(Amazingly high in the chart for an album that has only just come out..We guarantee you, you will hear more of him in 2006!)
  10. Jose Gonzalez- Veneer
(Since providing the music to the Sony Bravia TV advert (multi-coloured super balls in San Francisco), this album is set to be enormous and deservedly so.)
  11. Tom Russell- Hotwalker: Charles Bukowski And A Ballad For Gone America
(A tribute to some of the great literary and musical figures of Americana and a brillant album – Nigel's number 1 (and mine for what it's worth).)
  12. The Rakes – Capture / Release
(Long awaited and well worth it! Quintessentially English.)
  13. Two Gallants – The Throes
(This year they were the hit at sxsw...Next year the world!)

(Unquestionably the master of the experimental acoustic style he pioneered.)
  16. Low – The Great Destroyer
(Their eighth album would you believe? This is the one you want though...)
  17. Arcade Fire – Funeral
(Would prabably have been much higher if it wasn't for the fact that it made number 39 in last years chart on import! Essential.)
  18. Wolf Parade – Apologies To The Queen Mary
(Last year we told you about Arcade Fire...Well this is Montreal's next big thing!)
  19. Boards Of Canada – The Campfire Headphase
