Bandgeschichte
Maps besteht nur aus James Chapman, der seine Songs mit einem 16-Spur-Gerät in seinem Schlafzimmer aufnimmt. Er nennt sich zunächst "Short Break Operator", seine ersten Tracks erscheinen bei MySpace und die ersten gepressten Platten lässt er im Rough Trade-Laden verkaufen. Das Debütalbum "We Can Create", wird von Valgeir Sigurdsson (Björk) co-produziert und von Ken Thomas (Sigur Rós) und Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys) abgemischt, ein Vertrag bei Mute folgt, das Album wird in Reykjavik aufgenommen. Der NME und die restliche Musikpresse liebt und lobt das Ergebnis, eine Nominierung und der Auftritt beim Mercury Music Prize brachte das Album auch in die Charts.
