Bandgeschichte
Alexis Taylor und Joe Goddard lernen sich auf der Schule während eines Wrestling-Matchs kennen. Ihre musikalischen Einflüsse kommen aus dem Bereich des Funk und des Hip-Hop. Das New Yorker Team DFA (LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture) bot an ihr zweites Album zu produzieren. Es gab auch eine Aufnahme, aber die Zusammenarbeit funktionierte nicht. Allerdings wird das Album auf dem DFA-Label (und damit beim Major EMI) veröffentlicht. Mit "The Warning" gelang der Band dann auch der Durchbruch, das Album wurde fast uneingeschränkt von Kritikern gefeiert und vielerorts als "Album des Jahres" gekürt. Das zweite Album "Made in the Dark" erscheint 2008 und wird ähnlich gefeiert, zudem erreicht es, wie die Single Ready for the Floor, die UK-Top 10 und andere internationale Charts.
Ihr drittes Album One Life Stand erscheint im Februar 2010 als CD und LP sowie in einer limitierten Edition inklusive DVD.[1] Zuvor veröffentlichten Alexis Taylor und Joe Goddard 2009 jeweils ihr erstes Soloalbum. Anlässlich des Record Store Day am 17. April 2010 bringen Hot Chip eine auf 1000 Exemplare limitierte 7-Inch namens I Feel Bonnie heraus. Hierbei handelt es sich um einen Remix des Songs I Feel Better vom aktuellen Album, bei dem der Folk-Musiker Will Oldham (aka. Bonnie 'Prince' Billy) den Gesang beisteuert.[2]

Trivia
- Im Zuge der Crisis Hidden Gigs spielen Hot Chip am 2. Mai 2009 in London ein Benefiz-Konzert, welches der Obdachlosenstiftung Crisis zugute kommt. Im Vorfeld drehte Hot Chip-Mitglied Al Doyle mit einigen Obdachlosen ein Video zum Song Over and Over.[3]
